adopt children
support. train. grow.
Did you know that the Church has the power to fix the orphan crisis in America? Thousands of children age out of the foster care system every year when they turn 18, never finding a forever home. In the state of Pennsylvania alone, there are over 14,000 children/teenagers currently in foster care, over 2,000 are awaiting adoption, and each year, more than 1,100 teens age out without finding a forever home. The statistics for these young adults are heartbreaking
- One in five will experience homelessness, mental health challenges, and/or substance abuse.
- Nearly one in five will be arrested.
- Nearly half will not complete high school.
- Young women are 2.5 times more likely to become pregnant by 19.
This is happening right here in our own community. In Lehigh/Northampton counties, over 500 children are currently in foster care. Many, including teenagers and children with special needs, are waiting for placement with not enough available homes. We believe that it’s not too late for children currently in foster care and that we can work together to make a real difference.
Our God-sized goal is that we would see a day when the list of children/teenagers in the Lehigh Valley waiting for a home is empty – because every single child has found a safe and supportive forever home.
This goal includes providing support and encouragement to youth in foster care and the families who care for them — including kinship families, adoptive families, caregivers, and local families. Whether by fostering, offering a break to caregivers, or becoming a consistent, caring presence in a child’s life, there’s a part each of us can play in this God-sized goal. Together, we will support, train, and grow.
