Find & Follow Jesus
What does it mean to find Jesus?
We’re all on this journey called life – sometimes it’s beautiful and inspiring, and sometimes it’s chaotic and tragic. Where our brokenness encounters God’s unending love is where we find Jesus.
In the Bible, Jesus says, “Seek Me, and you will find Me.” Jesus hasn’t remained hidden. He tells us that when we look for Him and call upon Him, He makes Himself known. He invites us to come and see for ourselves what He’s all about, to experience His goodness.
God is patient. He’s gentle. He’s perfect. And we’re not. So, He sent His Son Jesus Christ, and though He lived a perfect life, He died for our sin. It was His death that takes away our sin. Three days after that death, Jesus rose from the dead. It is through His resurrection that He breathes new life into us.
The Bible says that if we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, we will be saved from our sins. There is nothing we could do to earn this kind of forgiveness, but through Christ, we are a new creation. When we encounter this risen Jesus, He gives us hope for this life and the life to come. None of it is about maintaining a religion — it’s about growing an ongoing relationship with the God who made us.
Having our sins forgiven is a one-time event, but finding Jesus is not. It’s an ongoing journey, and throughout our journey, we can find more and more of Jesus and continue to encounter Him in new and fresh ways.
What does it mean to follow Jesus?
Jesus changes everything. When we find Jesus, our priorities change, our goals change, and we change. Our primary pursuit becomes living and loving like Jesus.
Jesus told us to teach the world to obey the things He commands. That means we open the Bible and learn the things that He taught. But it’s more than knowledge — it’s experiencing those things and putting them into practice. Things like “Love the Lord your God,” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Following Jesus means growing and serving.
This journey of following Jesus never ends. Whether you’ve been a Christ follower for decades or for an hour, there is a next step for you to take in the journey of knowing Him.
